Accessibility Policy

Effective Date: 12/11/2025

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Midwest Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all of our users.

Conformance Standards

This website strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance means that our website meets the success criteria that address the biggest and most common barriers for people with disabilities, including those who:

  • Are blind or have low vision
  • Are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Have limited movement or dexterity
  • Have cognitive or learning disabilities
  • Use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice recognition software, or alternative input devices

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features on this website:

  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements and content can be accessed using a keyboard alone
  • Screen Reader Compatibility: Content is structured to work with screen readers and other assistive technologies
  • Text Alternatives: Images include alternative text descriptions
  • Clear Navigation: Consistent navigation structure throughout the site
  • Color Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet minimum contrast ratios for readability
  • Resizable Text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • Skip Links: Skip navigation links allow users to bypass repetitive content
  • Form Labels: All form inputs have clearly associated labels
  • Error Identification: Form errors are clearly identified and described
  • Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators show which element has keyboard focus

Conformance Status

Midwest Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies partially conforms with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

This website partially conforms with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conforms" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Known Accessibility Issues

We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are working to address them:

  • Some PDF documents do not contain proper tagging for screen readers. We are in the process of remediating these documents. Expected completion: June 2026
  • Certain third-party embedded content (such as social media feeds) may not meet all accessibility standards.
  • Image Slider Loading: Our image sliders use accessibility enhancement scripts to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. Due to the dynamic nature of page loading, there may be brief instances where slider images load before accessibility attributes are fully applied. This is automatically resolved within moments of page load. If you experience any accessibility issues with our image sliders, please refresh the page or contact us for assistance.

Third-Party Content

While we strive to ensure all content on our website meets accessibility standards, some third-party content or embedded features (such as social media widgets, maps, or videos) may be controlled by external providers and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are committed to selecting accessible third-party tools whenever possible and providing accessible alternatives where needed.

Ongoing Efforts

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly:

  • Review and test our website for accessibility barriers
  • Update content and features to maintain conformance standards
  • Provide accessibility training to our team members
  • Incorporate accessibility from the beginning of our design and development process
  • Welcome and respond to feedback from users about accessibility
